Children are often too busy playing outside and running around to worry about their oral health. This means, as the parent, it’s your responsibility to not only ensure they maintain good oral habits but also help to get them excited about taking care of their teeth and gums. Drink Plenty of Water
While your child may want a juice box or soda, they’re filled with sugar and are not only harmful to their overall health but also to their teeth and gums. Instead, offer water as an alternative. As they run and play, it will help to keep them hydrated as well as stimulate saliva production, which works to wash away any food debris or bacteria living in the mouth.
Stick to a Regime
Not only is it important to start early with good oral habits, but it’s also important to make it a routine. Make sure they’re brushing their teeth twice a day for two minutes. This is how long it takes to thoroughly remove any and all bacteria from the mouth. In addition, ensure they’re flossing at least once and day and doing it properly. Incorrect flossing techniques can damage the gums. If needed, have your children use flossing picks or a flat beginner’s floss.
